Every Wednesday night, around 800 Alcala, across from a pizza stand, this group practices traditional dance. With jeans beneath their full skirts and with tennies instead of sandals, they coordinate their movements, offering polite commands and laughter along the way. I love coming across their displays, more beautiful and natural than some perfected display. There is something impressive about their commitment to this art form and their willingness to display it, as is, along the way.
