A Oaxacan popular music composer, Alarcón was born in Oaxaca in 1921. He wrote hundreds of songs, including including “Amor Mío” and “Sabor a Mí.”

I walk by his statue every day, and recently I noticed the drawing around his shadow. I am not sure why he has a frown or if it is a bigote (mustache).

This statue appears in a plaza where people often dance. It seems fitting that both versions of Alarcón should seem to preside over this place of dancing.
