We are closing week five of the semester, and we are spinning with tremendous speed, as our Earth about the sun, 67,000 miles per hour.
Before classes commenced, I participated in a workshop where we were asked to create, from clay, a model of our universe. I watched as colleagues created polychromatic globes and elaborate pyramids, multi-dimensional dimensions with moons.
And I remembered how soothing it is to roll out a snake–or an intestine!
My universe would be the dark intestine, a reminder that we are one speck of dust in the infinite sense of time, that we are one brief link in the food chain.

“No, the serpent did not
Seduce Eve to the apple.
All that’s simply
Corruption of the facts.Adam ate the apple.
Eve ate Adam.
The serpent ate Eve.
This is the dark intestine. The serpent, meanwhile,
Sleeps his meal off in Paradise –
Smiling to hear
God’s querulous calling.”

What does your universe look like? How do you make sense of the world?
