Malasadas are a Portuguese fried dough mixture that resemble a jelly donut and are filled with tropical and other fruit flavors or Bavarian Creme (pictured above).
Fried and filled on request, malasadas are served hot and fresh out of the drive-thru window of Tex Drive In or at the friendly counter inside the take out shop. The menu needn’t include anything other than these sinful concoctions at this thriving spot, but they have an extensive offering of Hawaiian-style and local foods, including the usuals: loco mocos, Portuguese bean soup, teriyaki whatever, burgers, sandwiches, and so on as well as meatloaf, stews, salads, boats, and dogs.
Forget the decent entrees, get a malasada – or a box of ‘em.
