Second-to-Last Class in Tlacochahuaya

I can finally spell Tlacochahuaya without pasting it from one of the few places it appears on the internet. I have even learned that the name means “swamp land.” (It isn’t exactly Bayou country, but it fits this place in the rainy season.) And, I can’t believe I already am wrapping up another month with these quick students who spend their afternoons practicing how to greet strangers, how to count, how to tell someone their name (or a fake one), their age, their favorite color, and how to describe what they love about this world. Taking the bus out of town tonight, I thought, it is no wonder I know the word for the place that holds them–by heart.
