Saturday night, I was sitting on the bus behind a woman did not like how I had crossed my legs. She felt my foot was going to touch her. It was not; in fact, it was practically impossible. She told me to move, yelled at me, sneered at me. Then, she struck me in the foot with her coin purse. The whole time, I remained mute. I was worried about what might happen next. Finally, she moved and repeatedly turned around to look in my direction with this mean stare. Looking around I saw other people with their legs crossed in similar ways. The woman across from me also had a hump that took over the majority of her legroom. I don’t know why I provoked such a reaction from this stranger.
