Good Afternoon, My Name Is...

Like a parade, I and my ten eight to eleven year-olds hit the streets of Tlacochahuaya this afternoon to practice our English skills by introducing ourselves one-by-one to people in the community. We stopped moto-taxis, men on bicycles, men playing basketball, a security guard, the three ladies in the carniceria; we went to small stories, the marketplace, a place that sells shoes, a library, an art class, bus stops, and more.

We talked to people of all ages, some uncles, some godparents, friends of the family.

We learned some additional words: church, God, goodbye, clouds, sky, sun, moon, shoe store, market, and we reviewed our fruits and vegetables on avocados, tomatoes, peanuts, limes, chiles, beans, etc.

We climbed: on God’s house, on any stairs we found, in trees, into moto-taxis when we knew the people.

We were as polite and poised and clear as we possibly could be as we practiced our palabras (words).
