You’re Invited to a Wedding (Boda)

For the last two days in Advanced Spanish (yes, I finally made it), we studied the traditions surrounding a traditional wedding in the pueblo Atzompa. We explored the roles of family and friends and traditions. We learned about two traditional dances. One involves dancing with a male and a female turkey. The other features dancing all of the gifts to the bride and groom, including super larges ones like a stove, washer, or refrigerator. Imagine a conga line of appliances at a fancy wedding.

As part of the study, we looked at invitations from a variety of events, and then we created our own wedding invitation for a Mexican wedding and had to describe what our wedding will be like, from flowers to the calenda (parade with fireworks and family and friends and a band), meal, etc.

Please join my imaginary groom and me on 31 October for a celebration of our union.
