I admit it; I am a news junkie. It is my father’s fault. When I was at UC Davis, he would admonish me for not knowing what was going on in the world. He’d ask, “If you don’t know, who does?” He had a good point, and so I became interested in knowing more about current events and politics.

Tonight, I could get live coverage of the final presidential debate of this election cycle on my iPhone while I was sitting in a cafe in Oaxaca. I could see the body language of Obama and Romney, but (despite my best efforts) I had no sound. I could read the streaming blog off to the right side. I could read the assessments afterwards, but I only know what others narrate, and I only know from whatever lens the writers are wearing… Things I miss: George Stephanopolus, David Gregory, Jon Stewart, even Stephen Colbert.

When I saw that the film Campaign was translated (from English into Spanish) as Locos por los Votos (Crazy for Votes), I couldn’t help feel as if the translators were describing me as I wait for my ballot to be emailed to me here in Mexico.
