When I go to Tlacochahuaya every Monday and Wednesday to teach English from 4-6 p.m., I represent a group called Fundacion En Via. They have website and blog. Take a look at: http://fundacionenvia.posterous.com.
When I first attended the Instituto Cultural de Oaxaca, I learned of this group and took a tour of the homes of six women from Teotitlan del Valle involved in the micro-finance program. They all were weavers and incorporated tradition with modern designs and products. To diversify from wool, one of the young women also had a metal earring business.
I learned a tremendous amount about what a small loan can do to help people obtain their own businesses (propio negocios). Although I do not have the luck or the skill to be an entrepreneur, I have been able to learn a little bit about this from the program participants.
