I took a bus ride this evening over the river (Atoyac River) and into the hills. It was a circuitous route that passed by Llano Park twice before delivering me to a grocery store to complete my shopping. At a stop by the Mercado de Abastos, a sprawling complex of stalls and stands and buildings designed to sell anything a person could imagine, a delivery person jumped on the bus to carry a bag of prepared food. He complained about how much the people were spending and said it would be much cheaper and better for them to buy and make a chicken. Talking to the bus driver, he considered the difference in price. Yes, he was right in some ways. He also would almost certainly consider me silly for taking such a long way to the grocery store, especially after I spent the day at a farmers’ market.
